Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, has been long known as a mystery. That’s something that many names have come up, but nobody is sure of. Some new theories have developed in recent times that Jack Dorsey, who is a co-founder of Twitter and one of the strongest supporters of Bitcoin, could be the man behind the pseudonym.
Though the idea that Dorsey could be Satoshi Nakamoto isn’t a new one, recently there has been more evidence that comes up making this theory that more interesting. The reason people are convinced that Dorsey could be Satoshi is because there are surprisingly many connections regarding his journey and Bitcoin’s early days.
Coincidences That Raise Eyebrows
An important piece of data is the dates. Seán Murray, a researcher who has been researching the correlation between Dorsey and Bitcoin, believes that Bitcoin’s first transaction happened on January 11th, Jack Dorsey’s mother’s birthdate. Satoshi’s last block mined on March 5th also happens to be Dorsey’s father’s birthday. It cannot be ignored that this all happened around the same time.
Satoshi also registered on the planet’s biggest Bitcoin forum, on November 19th, which is Jack Dorsey’s birthday according to Murray. In fact, original timestamps in the code for Bitcoin indicate they were all logged at 4 a.m., the same time Dorsey used to have in his Twitter profile. Could these be clues relating him to the mysterious creator?
Other Clues in Dorsey’s Past
Dorsey has been passionate about cryptography, the science that secures things like Bitcoin, since the beginning. He and bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto hold the same vision for a financial system independent of banks and governments, and that’s key to bitcoin’s purpose.
In 2014, a hacker tried to blackmail Satoshi, saying he knew they were from St. Louis, Missouri, where Dorsey was born. In addition, the IP address of Satoshi traced back to California, where Dorsey works at X (formerly Twitter).
Skeptics Remain Unconvinced
While there are some interesting clues, most experts still doubt that Jack Dorsey is Satoshi Nakamoto. There is no strong proof that people connect Dorsey with Bitcoin’s creation. Others think that similarities in writing style aren’t enough to confirm it, some say that he may not have the required skills to create Bitcoin.
Dorsey denied being Satoshi, saying “No, and if I were, would I tell you?” However, there still are people that continue to speculate and make up all sorts of theories.
End Note
Although the idea that Jack Dorsey is the mysterious figure Satoshi Nakamoto is no more than a theory, there are some interesting clues that fuel the speculation. Whether or not Dorsey is the creator of Bitcoin, his contribution to cryptocurrency is important and he continues to support today’s Bitcoin in the form of a decentralized future. For now, the true identity of Satoshi is still a mystery in technology.
