Former U.S. President Donald Trump has officially endorsed Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) for her 2026 reelection. Trump praised Lummis on his social media platform, Truth Social, for her leadership on cryptocurrency policy and said that she is working with him to turn the US into the ‘Crypto Capital of the World.’
As the Chair of the Senate Banking Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Lummis is a strong supporter of Bitcoin. Her efforts have been in the creation of clear rules for the cryptocurrencies. In recent times, she introduced the BITCOIN Act, which suggests the U.S. Treasury purchase 1 million Bitcoins over five years.
In fact, Trump already signed an executive order to back the idea of owning a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. In that case this means that the U.S. government eventually can own the BTC as a national asset. Lummis put forth an idea in which this project can be funded without raising taxes by revaluing old gold certificates and using government owned energy resources to mine the Bitcoin.
Lummis said at the DC Blockchain Summit 2025 that holding Bitcoin long term might help cut down on the national debt. They likened this to the way Wyoming had once invested in mineral wealth.
With Trump’s backing, Lummis could gain more support for her Bitcoin friendly policies. As Bitcoin prices hit higher highs, the arguments about its place in the U.S. economy are also mounting. This will be watched by many to see what effect it has on the future of cryptocurrency in America.
